Leather Swatches and Stories

Meet the Leathers

The images and information below is provided to help with your selection for the 'perfect' finish.

Bookseed uses only the highest quality genuine leathers for all our handcrafted items.  My supplier and I have worked together for a number of years now and he chooses the finest hides for my work.

The leathers fall into 4 categories: Analine, Soft, Suave and Chesterfield.

***Also please note that the colour will appear different between computer screens.

Analine

For when you want the leather to show the story and history of the animal.  Beautiful markings appear throughout these leathers. This is also the choice for the look that will age with wear.  It will also show your marks of use over time.  These can be buffed and polish but will remain as part of the story.

Ideal for creating old looking journals and covers. Looking to create that heirloom piece that looks like it was found in an old treasure chest?  This is your leather.

Available in colours: Antique Oak (a rick dark brown), British Tan (Think rich honey tones) and Cognac (Deep dark whisky and brandy tones).

These leathers are not available for Desk Mats.

Soft

Very soft and supple with minimal markings.  Luscious buttery leather.  Makes beautiful covers, book wraps and satchels and desk mats that roll easily.

And of course soft and delicious journals.

Available in colours: Cherry Red (Deep rich red), Violet Purple (dark and mysterious), Black (well black is black -  just lovely deep dark black)

Suave

Another soft and supple leather but with a slight pattern that makes it flexible enough to stand up to wear and tear.  The toughest wearing of the leather selection while still maintaining a beautiful soft leather characteristic.

Available in colours: Espresso (think dark roasted coffee beans), Sea Blue (teal - turquoise), Monet Blue'

Chesterfield

Leathers that can be rubbed back revealing lighter undertones to give an aged appearance. Looks beautiful on journals spines.

Available in colours: Ruby Red (Very dark Burgundy Red) and Chestnut (Mid tone brown).  Note that Desk Mats are not rubbed back and the original leather is left untouched.  The Chestnut is particularly lovely.
